Magic is used not only by mages in Eaxia but by other guilds too. Druids, Wizards, Martial Artists, Clerics, Bards, Rangers, Necromancers, all of these guilds use magic in one form or another. Here is an interesting excerpt from a book in the lands regarding the beginnings of magic.

You open the book and read to yourself:
"The Flow is a force we should observe carefully, we find.
A great wizard, Zerra Moonsummon had spent many months in
preparation for her greatest experiment, unweaving one thread
from The Flow and infusing it to her body.
Zerra lifted her arms from Eaxia towards the heavens and
Her body became the encapsulated vessel of The Flow.
Her flesh paled, her eyes cleared as if no life remained in her.
Descending to Eaxian land her frail form beheld a glance of the unknown.

Now that you know a bit about how magic began how about how to use magic? To use a spell properly you must first prepare the spell. To do this you would PREP <SPELLNAME> <TARGET> For example:
PREP ZAP GOB
This would prepare the zap spell to be cast on a goblin.
After preparing the spell you need to wait until you are fully prepared to cast it. Wait until you see the following line:
You feel completely prepared to cast your spell.
Then you simply CAST your spell.
A spell will not work all of the time. There are several factors that will cause a spell to backfire, including but not limited to the type of armor you wear, your wisdom and intelligence stats and your casting ability.
